Sabrina Ionescu Receives WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week Award

Sabrina Ionescu and the New York Liberty have had an impressive start to the WNBA summer season, boasting a record of 15-3 after 18 games, the best in the league. Ionescu’s contributions have been key to the team’s success, leading her to earn the most recent Eastern Conference Player of the Week honors.

In the past week, the Liberty won three out of four games, with Ionescu averaging 25 points, 9.3 assists, and 4.7 rebounds per game while shooting 47.3 percent from the field. She topped the league in points and assists during this time. However, their recent game against the Minnesota Lynx in the WNBA Comminsor’s Cup Championship resulted in a 94-89 loss for New York, making Minnesota the In-Season Tournament Champs and earning them $500,000 in prize money.

Despite the setback, Ionescu had a strong performance in the game, scoring 23 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and dishing out four assists. Although the Liberty led at halftime, a low scoring third quarter ultimately sealed their defeat. With the season just passing its halfway point, the Liberty have more games ahead, including a Sunday home game against the Atlanta Dream, a rematch against Minnesota, and a matchup against Catlin Clark’s Indiana Fever. While the team is in a strong position, they will need to maintain their momentum to secure a playoff spot.
