The Saints made a roster move on Friday by signing tight end Jesper Horsted, a four-year NFL veteran. Horsted originally signed with the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of Princeton in 2019. Throughout his career, he has appeared in 41 games with one start for the Bears and the Raiders. Horsted has recorded 14 receptions for 131 yards with three touchdowns and 10 special teams tackles.
During the 2023 season, Horsted played 13 games and caught a pass for a 4-yard gain. He also tied a career-high with four coverage tackles while playing on special teams. Sheets, an undrafted rookie wide receiver out of Slippery Rock, was waived by the Saints to make room for Horsted. Sheets had an impressive college career, earning Division II All-American honors twice and totaling 154 receptions for 2,440 yards and 29 touchdowns in 51 games.
In his final college season in 2023, Sheets caught 76 passes for 1,186 yards and 17 touchdowns. Despite his potential, the Saints decided to part ways with him in favor of adding Horsted to the roster. Horsted has seen action on 186 offensive snaps and 527 on special teams throughout his career, bringing experience and versatility to the Saints’ lineup.
