Northampton Saints emerged victorious over Bath in the Premiership final in June. Premiership champions, the Saints, have recently signed George Smith, a talented young player who initially left rugby to pursue a career in American football. Smith, who stands at 6ft 8in and weighs 138kg, participated in the NFL’s international player pathway intake along with former Wales star Louis Rees-Zammit earlier this year. After spending time in the United States, Smith decided to return to rugby and signed with Northampton Saints in April.

Smith expressed his excitement about joining the Saints, stating that rugby was his true passion and he felt at home with the team from the moment he arrived. Saints director of rugby, Phil Dowson, praised Smith’s unique qualities, highlighting his impressive height, speed, and physicality. Dowson described Smith as a bright and talented player who adds value to the team with his skills and athleticism.

In addition to welcoming Smith, the Saints also bid farewell to hooker Sam Matavesi and confirmed the departure of England flanker Lewis Ludlam, who signed with Toulon. The signing of Smith adds depth and talent to the Northampton Saints squad as they continue to strengthen their roster for upcoming matches.
