Tony’s Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco has been recognized as one of the top pizzerias in the world, according to 50 Top Pizza’s annual list. Ranked at number 19, Tony’s was the only Bay Area restaurant to make the prestigious list of the top 100 pizzerias globally. Notably, it was also the sole California eatery to receive recognition in the rankings.
The renowned restaurant was commended by 50 Top Pizza for its owner and chef, Tony Gemignani, who has mastered the art of creating a variety of pizzas ranging from Neapolitan to New Style. Gemignani’s attention to detail and careful consideration of fermentation time for each pizza type was highlighted by the organization.
Two outstanding pizzas from Tony’s menu were especially recommended by 50 Top Pizza. The Uncle His Vito, featuring caramelized onions, ricotta, bacon, and pesto, was lauded for its flavors and can be found in the Classic His American section of the menu. The Capodimonte, topped with mozzarella, dried tomatoes, and basil, was also highly recommended by the group and is listed under the Napoletana section.
Earlier in the year, Tony’s Pizza Napoletana secured the fourth spot on the U.S. ranking of the 50 Top Pizzas, while Las Vegas restaurant Pizza Rock came in at number 18. In recognition of these achievements, Gemignani received the World Ranking Performance of the Year award. Additionally, his two restaurants were honored with the Best Performance Award in the U.S. ranking, further solidifying his reputation as a top pizza chef in the country.
