Residents in Schoolcraft may have noticed a change on Monday as the Dome Sports Center deflated its dome to make room for a new one. The 30-acre sports complex, located on US-131, invited the community to witness the deflation process and participate in activities such as a kids’ one-mile fun run and golf skills challenge.

The new dome is set to be installed in August, with additional renovations including air conditioning, volleyball, pickleball, and basketball courts expected to be completed by November. Owner Josh Baird stated that the project was inspired by the center’s “Building the Miracle Field,” a baseball field designed to be fully accessible to all athletes, including those in wheelchairs or with visual impairments.

Baird emphasized the importance of creating an inclusive athletic facility for the community, stating that every athlete should feel at home and welcome at the center. Despite the construction process, summer camps, outdoor driving ranges, flag football leagues, and volleyball and basketball programs will continue to be offered.

The deflation of the dome marked a significant milestone in the center’s vision of providing a fully-accessible sports facility for all members of the community. The Dome Sports Center aims to create a space where athletes of all abilities can come together to enjoy sports and recreation.
