Stephan Pick has announced that the German drama series I Am Scrooge has secured distribution in North America, Europe, and Australia. The show is set to premiere at Seriencamp in Cologne this week. The show is produced by the subsidiary Zeitsprung Pictures of the German producer-distributor Beta Film.
The drama has been sold to various networks including MHZ in the U.S. and Canada, SBS in Australia, DR in Denmark, TET in Latvia, and RTL in Hungary. It will also be launched on RTL+ in Germany later this year. The show will kick off Seriencamp on Wednesday.
I Am Scrooge is based on the true story of Arno Funke, also known as ‘Scrooge McDuck’, who was involved in a spectacular extortion case in Germany in 1988. The failing artist used his talents to build bombs in his kitchen and detonate them at department stores for extortion. The show follows the detectives who try to catch him as he fools them with his ‘Scrooge’ persona.
The premiere will be attended by the real-life Funke, as well as lead actor Friedrich Mücke and Sonja Gerhardt. Directed by Hannu Salonen, the series also stars Mišel Matičević and Moritz Führmann. Beta Film is handling international distribution for the show.
The premiere at Seriencamp will be a highlight of the event, with panels featuring ZDF Studios and the makers of Apple TV+’s Constellation. Annette Hess, the screenwriter of Ku’Damm series and We Children from Bahnhof Zoo, will receive the festival’s first Deadline Disruptor Award.
