Sea Dogs break losing streak as Wikelman Gonzalez dazzles

Wikelman Gonzalez had a strong performance on the mound, allowing only one hit in six scoreless innings for the Portland Sea Dogs. This helped the Sea Dogs break their five-game losing streak with a 5-1 victory over the Somerset Patriots. Gonzalez dominated the game, only giving up a hit in the sixth inning. He finished the game with one walk and five strikeouts, improving his season record to 3-1. Portland got on the board early with Corey Rosier scoring in the first inning after a walk, stolen base, error, and sacrifice fly by Tyler McDonough. McDonough later added a two-run single in the third inning, while Alex Erro contributed a solo home run and Alex Binelas had two hits. Somerset managed to score one run in the seventh inning with Mickey Gasper’s RBI double.

Matt Fitzpatrick had his eyes set on securing his spot at the Ryder Cup, and he took a big step towards that goal by extending his lead to two shots after the third round in Crans-Montana, Switzerland. Fitzpatrick played exceptionally well, finishing the round with a 3-under-par score of 67. With a total score of 15-under, he holds a two-stroke lead over his closest competitors, Alexander Björk, Ludvig Saberg, and Connor Syme.

Formula One driver Carlos Sainz Jr. had a fantastic birthday weekend so far as he claimed pole position for the Italian Grand Prix in Monza, Italy. The Ferrari fans were ecstatic as Sainz, who turned 29 on Friday, crossed the finish line just 0.013 seconds faster than Max Verstappen, the current Formula One leader. Verstappen is aiming to secure his record-breaking 10th consecutive victory in the upcoming race.

Nottingham Forest achieved a surprising 1-0 victory over big-spending Chelsea, with Anthony Elanga scoring the only goal of the game at Stamford Bridge. Everton finally ended their goal drought in a 2-2 draw with Sheffield United, with both teams earning their first point of the season. Tottenham came from behind to beat Burnley 5-2, with Son Heung-min scoring a hat trick and leaving Burnley without a point.

Primoz Roglic emerged victorious in a thrilling mountainous eighth stage of the Spanish Vuelta, beating Remco Evenepoel in a sprint to the finish line. The two riders, who are both previous Vuelta winners, battled it out on the challenging Xorret del Catí climb. This stage win marked Roglic’s first of the current edition and his 11th career stage win at the Vuelta. Meanwhile, Roglic’s teammate Sepp Kuss took the lead in the overall standings of the three-week race.
