In Brussels on Thursday, the European Union provided Ukraine with long-term security commitments. The agreement aims to help Ukraine defend itself, counter destabilization efforts, and prevent future attacks. It promises economic, military, and industrial support, as well as assistance in energy transition and nuclear power safety. The parties also agree to share intelligence and satellite images.

The European Union and its member states have committed to enhancing the delivery of necessary military aid to Ukraine, with an annual budget of five billion euros for the Ukraine aid fund within the European Peace Fund this year. Additional annual investments can be planned until 2027, taking into account the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the guidance of the Council of Member States.

The agreement emphasizes the EU’s support for Ukraine in its membership efforts and pledges to continue providing training to the Ukrainian Defense Forces. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi expressed satisfaction with the opening of membership negotiations between the EU and Ukraine and gratitude for the G7 countries’ decision regarding frozen Russian funds.

Zelenskyi raised concerns about potential loosening of sanctions on Russian oligarchs and stressed the importance of discussions on preparations for the next peace summit. He emphasized the significance of these matters not only for Ukraine but also for the rest of the world.
