On Monday, September 17, 2023, several high school sports games were scheduled to take place in the WPIAL. In field hockey, the Section 3A matchups included Mount Lebanon at Pine-Richland, North Allegheny at Allderdice, Norwin at Peters Township, and Hempfield in a nonsection game against Fox Chapel.
In boys’ soccer, the Class 3A Section 1 game was between Hampton and North Catholic, while in Section 4, Penn Hills was set to play at Plum. In Class 2A, Elizabeth Forward was scheduled to play South Allegheny in Section 1, and there were nonsection games between Bentworth and Brownsville, Brentwood and California, Hopewell and Montour, and Ligonier Valley and Greensburg Salem.
The girls’ soccer games featured Class 4A Section 1 matchups between Butler and Fox Chapel, North Allegheny and Alderdice, Pine Rich Land and North Hills, and Scherer and Seneca Valley. In Section 2, Cannon was set to play against McMillan Bethel Park, Hempfield against Baldwin, Norwin against Mount Lebanon, and Upper St. Claire against Peters Township. In Class 3A, Section 1 games were scheduled between Armstrong and Hampton, Mars and Kiski Area, and Oakland Catholic and Obama Academy. Section 2 matchups included Connellsville against Albert Gala Ting and Elizabeth Forward against Thomas Jefferson. Section 4 games were set between Chartier Valley and Montour, Moon and Blackhawk, and South Fayette and Trinity.
In Class 2A girls’ soccer, Section 1 games were scheduled between Ambridge and Avonworth, and Central Valley against North Catholic. Quaker Valley was set to play against Beaver in Section 2, and Apollo Ridge against Burrell, Freeport against Noch Deer Lakes against Valley in Section 3, and East Allegheny against Southmoreland, Mount Pleasant against Woodland Hills Ligonier Valley in Section 4.
Class A girls’ soccer games included Section 1 matchups between Janet and Springdale, Serra Catholic and Seton LaSalle, and Steele Valley and Greensburg Central Catholic. In Section 2, the games were between Beth Center and Monessen, Charleroi and South Allegheny, and Chartiers – Houston and Bentworth. Section 3 featured games between Eden Christian and Freedom, and Southside and Mohawk. In Section 4, matches were scheduled between Bishop Kanevin Aquinas Academy and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart at Ellis School, and Winchester Thurston and Carrington.
Lastly, in girls’ volleyball, Class 4A Section 1 game was set between North Hills and Butler, while Baldwin was set to play against Cannon McMillan in Section 2. In Class 3A, Indiana was scheduled to play against Highlands in Section 5. There were also nonsection games between Avera and Bentworth, Charleroi and Belle Vernon, Eden Christian and Burgettstown, Fort Cherry and Maple Town, Frazier and Southmoreland, Greensburg Central Catholic and Berlin Brothers Valley, Hempfield and Mount Lebanon, Latrobe and Derry, Ligonier Valley and Meyersdale, Lincoln Park and Freedom, McGuffey and Uniontown, Rochester and Northgate, Penn Hills and Noch, Propel Montour and Aliquippa, Quaker Valley and Montour, Ringgold and West Mifflin, Riverview and You, South Allegheny and Serra Catholic, and South Side and Carrington. Waynesburg was set to play against Albert Gallatin.
