Serious Injury in Gaza Leaves Him Temporarily Blind

Mar 27, 2024

Three weeks later, during the ground maneuver inside the Gaza Strip, combat engineering fighters were among the first to enter the area. With adrenaline running high, they leveled roads, breached obstacles, and ensured the area was clear of charges. Despite the fear, they were motivated by the videos of October 7 that reminded them of their purpose.

Ron and his team operated in the Gaza Strip for almost two months, facing constant gunfire and dangerous situations. In one instance, they had to navigate a difficult area in Gaza City, working carefully to allow tanks to enter the neighborhood. While following safety procedures, an anti-tank missile managed to penetrate their compartment, narrowly missing Ron’s head.

After the terrifying incident, Ron and his teammate were evacuated to safety and taken to Billinson Hospital. Prof. Rita Ehrlich, a surgeon at the hospital, performed emergency surgery on Ron’s eyes to remove shrapnel and prevent further damage. Despite the severity of his injuries, Ron remained hopeful and focused on recovering quickly to return to his team.

After weeks of being unable to see, and undergoing several surgeries, Ron’s vision gradually improved. He credits the skilled medical team for saving his eyesight and is grateful for the opportunity to continue fighting alongside his friends. Now recovering at home, he eagerly awaits the day he can rejoin his team in combat.

As Ron reflects on his journey, he acknowledges the support of his family, friends, and medical team, who have stood by him throughout his recovery. Despite the challenges he faced, Ron remains determined to return to the battlefield and continue serving his country.
