Seville races past Noah Lyles to break world record in men’s 100m event

Jamaica’s Oblique Seville stunned Noah Lyles at the home Racers Grand Prix, outpacing the 100m world champion with a personal best time and a world-leading performance just weeks before the Olympic Games in Paris 2024. The 23-year-old sprinter clocked a time of 9.82 seconds in the men’s 100m race on Saturday in Kingston, Jamaica, improving upon his previous personal best of 9.86 seconds.

Under the guidance of coach Glen Mills, known for mentoring the legendary Usain Bolt to multiple Olympic gold medals, Seville has consistently performed well, narrowly missing out on a medal in the 100m at the world championships in 2022 and 2023. However, his recent victory indicates that he is hitting his peak form at just the right time for the upcoming Olympic Games.

Noah Lyles, the reigning world champion in the 200m and 4x100m relay, finished the race in second place with a time of 9.85 seconds, just 0.02 seconds off his personal best. This was Lyles’ first 100m race of the year, showcasing his speed and talent ahead of the Paris 2024 Games.

In third place was Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala, who crossed the finish line in 10.02 seconds, rounding out the podium in the highly competitive men’s 100m event at the Racers Grand Prix.
