Squire Dison was honored by SGMC Health with the June DAISY Award for extraordinary nursing. He was recognized for his exceptional care and compassion towards both patients and their family members. Dison was nominated by a coworker in Case Management for his efforts in assisting a family member from out of the country in navigating the hospital.

The nomination highlighted how Dison went above and beyond by meeting the family member at the parking garage and escorting her to her mother’s room so she wouldn’t get lost. Additionally, he escorted her to her car when she was leaving, making sure she got safely to her destination. According to the coworker, Dison’s actions showed his commitment to going the extra mile for patients and their loved ones.

Cherise Giddens, the Chief Nursing Officer, praised Dison as a shining example of the warm and friendly culture at SGMC Health. She commended his display of human kindness as a testament to his compassionate nursing. The hospital encourages patients and employees to nominate nurses who demonstrate exceptional care and dedication in their roles.

The DAISY awards are presented monthly in front of colleagues, physicians, patients, and visitors. Each recipient receives a certificate recognizing them as an “Extraordinary Nurse” and a hand-carved sculpture called A Healer’s Touch. The local sponsor of SGMC Health’s DAISY Award, The Flower Gallery, generously donates a special floral arrangement of daisies for each honoree.
