Following Bangladesh’s 50-run loss to India in the T20 World Cup, veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan criticized the team’s lack of fighting spirit, which effectively ended their tournament dreams. This defeat marked their second loss in the Super Eights after an initial defeat to Australia. Shakib, who was playing in his 128th T20 international, expressed disappointment in the team’s performance and inability to show resilience in the match.

In the chase for 197 runs to win against India, Bangladesh could only manage 146-8 in their 20 overs, with skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto scoring the highest with 40 runs. The team has struggled with making runs throughout the tournament, with Towhid Hridoy being their top run-getter with 139 runs in six innings. Shakib, who scored an unbeaten 64 in the first round victory against the Netherlands, highlighted the visible gap between Bangladesh and top contenders in world cricket.

Despite his long and successful international career, Shakib remains unsure about when Bangladesh will win a world title. The 37-year-old has played in 67 Tests and 247 one-dayers, accumulating more than 19,500 runs and over 700 wickets. He emphasized the importance of enjoying playing for the team and stated that he will only continue as long as he feels desired and valued by the team. Shakib will make his decision about his future in the team when the time is right.
