Shanghai launches science teacher training program.

The training program targeting science teachers began on Thursday at Shanghai University, with the goal of enhancing international cooperation in science education and advancing the city’s primary science education. Hosted by the Shanghai Institute of Education in Science, Technology and Innovation and the Shanghai Educational center of Science and Art, the program extends over six months and includes lectures, study visits, curriculum design, research, and assessment.

As Shanghai aims to establish itself as a global center for scientific and technological innovation, Shanghai University is actively working to share high-quality educational resources from universities with basic education. Wang Congchun, vice president of Shanghai University, emphasized the importance of this initiative.

During the launch ceremony, Sohail Shaikh, the deputy trade commissioner at the British embassy in China, underscored the significance of international collaboration in science education. He praised Shanghai for leading the educational cooperation between the UK and China and expressed hope that teachers from both countries would benefit from the exchange of knowledge and practices in science education.

Guan Shaofeng, the operation director of the Shanghai Institute of Education in Science, noted that a total of 102 trainees from the city’s 16 districts are participating in the program. This training is expected to deepen understanding and improve the quality of science education for teachers from both countries.
