SGMC Health recently honored Shane Singletary, RN, with the April DAISY Award for his exceptional nursing care. Singletary received this award for his compassionate end-of-life care towards a patient. He was nominated by a family member of the patient who praised him for going above and beyond the call of duty during a difficult time.
The nomination described how Shane treated the patient’s family with care and respect, providing comfort and support while they faced the tough decision to stop life-sustaining measures for their loved one. Despite the emotional toll of the situation, Shane exhibited professionalism and kindness, treating the patient with dignity and ensuring that the family felt supported throughout the process.
SGMC Health encourages patients and colleagues to nominate nurses who display exceptional qualities such as compassion, teamwork, leadership, attitude, and skills and knowledge. Nominations are reviewed by a committee to select the monthly DAISY award recipient.
The DAISY award is presented monthly in front of the nurse’s colleagues, physicians, patients, and visitors. Each honoree receives a certificate and a hand-carved sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, as well as a special floral arrangement of daisies donated by The Flower Gallery, the local sponsor of SGMC Health’s DAISY Award.
For those interested in nominating a nurse for the DAISY award, they can visit sgmc.org/daisy to submit their recommendation.
