Sixteen-year-old Quincy Wilson, the phenom who captivated fans during the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials, is set to head to Paris as part of Team USA’s 4×400-meter relay pool. His coach, Joe Lee, confirmed the news early Monday morning after receiving a call from the U.S. Olympic coaching staff. Wilson will become the youngest male ever to make the U.S. Olympic Track & Field team, about a year younger than middle-distance runner Jim Ryun who competed in 1964 at 17 years old.
Wilson earned his place in the relay pool by finishing sixth in the 400 meters final, with an impressive time of 44.94 seconds. Throughout the trials, Wilson ran three consecutive laps around Hayward Field in under 45 seconds, including breaking a 42-year-old under-18 world record. His performance drew congratulations from sports legends like Deion Sanders and Michael Johnson, as well as an invite from Magic Johnson to a Washington Commanders game.
Despite just finishing his sophomore year of high school, Wilson’s remarkable achievements in track and field have already led to endorsement deals and representation by WME Sports, the agency that represents Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. The opportunity to compete in Paris will provide Wilson with valuable experience as he continues his promising career in the sport.
