Skanska, a Swedish contractor, has been selected to build the new Lokomotion Technology Centre for Metso, an industrial manufacturer, in Lahdesjärvi, Tampere, Finland. The project is valued at €99 million and will involve the construction of infrastructure and buildings totaling 34,000 sq m. The technology centre will serve as a facility for designing, testing, and manufacturing technologies, equipment, and components for the production of aggregates and sand. Once completed, the entire facility will encompass 66,000 sq m.

Construction of the first phase of the Lokomotion Technology Centre is set to begin in July and is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2027. This initial phase represents an investment of €150 million from Metso. Upon completion of the first phase, production of Metso’s Lokotrack track-mounted crushing plants will commence. The current site, Lokomo, which is focused on the aggregates business, will be relocated in phases to the new technology centre in Lahdesjärvi. Metso plans to ultimately close down and vacate the Hatanpää site and buildings that currently house Lokomo’s operations.
