Whitney Cumbo, the owner of Prima, has dealt with instances of vandalism in the past, including a man riding by on a bike and punching her window, and another throwing a rock and shattering it. This trend of vandalism has left Cumbo feeling like she is being targeted.
Cumbo and her sister opened Prima five years ago in Bridgeport, a location that felt close to home for them. However, recent events have made her feel like she is being pushed out of the area due to her race. As an African American woman, Cumbo feels that she is already at a disadvantage and these acts of vandalism only make her struggle more challenging.
The most recent incident of vandalism occurred on June 18 when the front window of the store was damaged. Cumbo is waiting for the window to be fixed and for the Chicago police to find the person responsible. Despite the setbacks, Prima employees emphasize that they are a business with good intentions and a positive atmosphere.
As of now, no one has been taken into custody for the vandalism, leaving Cumbo and her employees feeling defeated. They are hopeful that the police investigation will lead to the identification of the person responsible for the repeated acts of vandalism against their business.
