Smyth Ranks Among Chicago’s Best Eateries

Chicago, home to six of the best steakhouses in the world, can now proudly claim a spot among the top 100 restaurants globally as well. Michelin-starred destination Smyth was just named the 90th most delicious eatery across the planet. The ranking comes from The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, which just released its 51-100 list. Smyth, from chefs John Shields and Karen Urie Shields, is the only Chicago representative in the latter half of the top 100. The top 50 list will be released on June 5.

Christopher Gerber, General Manager and Partner at Smyth, described the unique approach to hospitality at the restaurant. The service is technically proficient and purposefully perfect, but also emphasizes empathy, listening, validation, and fulfilling guests’ needs. Whatever they are doing at Smyth is working, as the West Loop restaurant was also awarded a prestigious third Michelin star in 2023.

For those unfamiliar with Smyth, the staff collaborates with small farmers and select meat purveyors to offer fresh, high-quality, and natural dishes accompanied by an excellent wine list. The restaurant is a tribute to the farmlands of Smyth County in Virginia, where the owners spent significant time. Open only from 5pm to 9pm on Tuesdays through Saturdays, Smyth is expected to see an increase in traffic following this latest achievement. Securing a reservation at Smyth may become more challenging, so it is advisable to book a table as soon as possible.
