Former World Cup alpine skier Bode Miller and Colorado Snowsports Hall of Famer Chris Anthony recently celebrated the grand opening of Snöbahn Action Sports Center in Thornton, Colorado on March 8, 2024. This venue, which brings outdoor sports indoors, has caught the attention of some high-profile figures in professional sports who are interested in expanding the concept on a national scale.
Snöbahn recently announced a partnership with Unrivaled Sports, a new business focused on increasing access to youth sports through camps, leagues, and other means. Unrivaled Sports has invested money to become a minority owner in Snöbahn, with plans to become a majority owner as the company grows. Billionaires Josh Harris and David Blitzer, who manage NBA and NHL teams, founded Unrivaled Sports. Pro snowboarder Shaun White is also involved as a partner in the “action sports” division.
The main draw of Snöbahn is its state-of-the-art facilities and equipment designed to help beginners learn how to ski and ride without needing snow. Additionally, the venues feature jumps and obstacles for BMX and skateboard training. Snöbahn first opened its doors in Centennial in 2016, with its Thornton location following in 2024. Founder Sadler Merrill is expected to continue working with the company as it expands.
The investment from Unrivaled Sports is geared towards broadening Snöbahn’s reach beyond the Rocky Mountain region. While specific locations have not been confirmed, Texas and California are top contenders for new outlets. Kevin English, the Action CEO for Unrivaled Sports, highlighted that Snöbahn aims to make action sports more accessible to young athletes year-round, breaking down barriers and fostering a new generation of passionate and skilled athletes.
Shaun White expressed his support for Snöbahn, emphasizing that the investment is not just about adding more facilities but about creating opportunities for athletes everywhere.
