Snowflake’s CEO: A World Without AI Will Soon Fade from Memory

Sep 12, 2023

During an interview with CNBC’s Jim Cramer, Snowflake CEO Frank Slootman highlighted the growing impact of artificial intelligence (AI) in people’s lives. He mentioned that AI has become so integral to individuals’ life experiences that soon they may not even remember a world before it. Slootman compared the rise of AI to the transformative effect of search engines in the past, explaining that it has the potential to change everything just like search did.

In terms of Snowflake’s approach to AI, Slootman expressed enthusiasm, stating that the company is embracing it effortlessly. He specifically emphasized his optimism about AI’s capabilities for enterprises. He also noted how machine learning, which he referred to as a lesser form of AI, is becoming increasingly mainstream and adopted by many businesses.

However, Slootman acknowledged that the hype surrounding generative AI doesn’t hold much significance for big data companies like Snowflake. He mentioned that the AI industry seems to be near the top of the hype cycle, with limited meaningful advancements left. He clarified that while generative AI may be used for personal purposes such as trip planning or summarizing books like “The Great Gatsby,” it does not align with the needs of enterprises.

Overall, Slootman’s remarks shed light on the significance of AI in shaping the future and how Snowflake is leveraging this technology in the enterprise space.
