Following a successful weekend plan, the team decided to adjust the sol 1991-1992 plan by opting for more “touch and go” contact science instead of a longer-distance drive. This strategic decision was made to ensure a thorough documentation of the variations in chemistry and rock texture along the Vera Rubin Ridge.
The plan for sol 1991-1992 kicks off with a brief APXS observation of the target “Seaforth Head” in addition to MAHLI images of the same target. ChemCam and Mastcam will also be engaged in analyzing Seaforth Head, as well as another target named “Canisp”. Once these observations are completed, Curiosity will embark on a 15-meter drive and gather the customary post-drive images.
By prioritizing contact science activities in this plan, the team aims to deepen their understanding of the geological features and compositions present in this area of the Vera Rubin Ridge. This detailed data collection will contribute valuable insights to the ongoing exploration and research efforts of the Curiosity rover.
