Helena Li, the executive president of Trina Solar, expressed enthusiasm about their new partnership with European academic talent, emphasizing that it will empower their R&D team to enhance their core competence and offer tailored energy solutions to the European market. In addition to this collaboration, Trina Solar will establish a training center at IES-UPM, equipped with solar modules, trackers, and potentially battery energy storage systems (BESS) to support solar energy development in the region.

Established in 1979, IES-UPM has been actively engaged in researching the practical application of solar PV technology. Their future research endeavors will focus on various areas such as cost-effective silicon purification methods, development of new solar PV materials and innovative structures for highly efficient tandem cells, more effective strategies for demand management, and exploring the use of batteries for seamless integration of technology into the electricity grid.

As one of China’s top solar manufacturers, Trina Solar has earned a prominent position in the market, ranking second in Wood Mackenzie’s latest module manufacturer rankings just behind JA Solar. Their impressive track record includes shipping over 65GW of modules last year, a significant increase from 43.1GW in 2022, indicating a remarkable 51.3% year-on-year growth. By the end of the first quarter of 2024, Trina Solar had already shipped over 205GW of modules, solidifying their position as a key player in the global solar industry.
