Sophisticated Pelletizer Stores Process Parameters and More

Pelletizing has been revolutionized by Bay Plastics Machinery (BPM) with their new “Smart Pelletizing” system introduced at NPE2024. This innovative system has been designed with Industry 4.0 technology, offering a digital manufacturing perspective that provides a wealth of process data. The system tracks, controls, and saves everything from material recipes to process parameters and operator activity.

BPM’s “Smart Pelletizing” system allows users to input material recipes that adapt automatically across all machinery. The system features easy-to-save and easy-to-recall recipes, with all important events logged for reference. The complete smart pelletizer system, centered on the AXP08 pelletizer and water bath system, is driven by a versatile master control that provides detailed insights into the pelletizer’s operation.

The master controller offered by BPM serves as a remote window into the pelletizer’s operation, providing operators with comprehensive information beyond just running the machine. The system includes valuable on-machine resources accessible via a tablet and large control screen, offering documentation for machine maintenance, troubleshooting, training videos, and parts drawings. This control system supports customers in non-English speaking countries as well.

A key component of BPM’s “Smart Pelletizing” system is the camera caliper tool, which provides estimates for throughput in pounds per minute. Additionally, air knife process data is monitored to control CFM per strand and vacuum levels, indicating when filters need changing. BPM’s innovative system has transformed the pelletizing process, making it more efficient, user-friendly, and data-driven than ever before.
