Springer Nature has recently become a member of the UN Women Media Compact, a partnership aimed at empowering women. Currently, women make up 44% of the company’s global leadership, with a 50/50 gender split on the management board. This partnership with UN Women formalizes Springer Nature’s ongoing commitment to gender equity, focusing on advancing women’s rights and eliminating biases and stereotypes in media representation.
The collaboration with UN Women aligns with Springer Nature’s broader efforts to support and promote women in research and science. They will be hosting a virtual conference in September on health and gender equity, titled “Breaking Barriers for Gender and Health Equity Through Research.” Additionally, their annual Inspiring Women in Science Awards in October will double down on efforts to publish more papers by women researchers.
As part of their commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), one in four Springer Nature employees is engaged in supporting SDGs through various initiatives. This partnership with UN Women will complement their existing efforts to advance gender issues and empower women in the field of science. Jessica Gedamu, Vice President of Global Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Springer Nature, emphasized the company’s dedication to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion both internally and through their publications and activities.
By leveraging their global reach and influence, Springer Nature aims to drive positive change and contribute to a more inclusive and gender-equitable society. Through their partnership with UN Women and continued focus on gender representation and empowerment, the company is taking concrete steps towards a more diverse and inclusive future.
