Springfield to welcome new community health center

On May 22, 2024, officials from both the public and private sectors came together in Springfield to unveil plans for a new 90,000 square foot community health center. This project is set to revolutionize the way area residents receive healthcare services.

Baystate Health will be spearheading the construction, ownership, and operation of the $50 million health center. The facility will be built on 10 acres of land generously donated by MassMutual. The land, valued at $5 million, is located in the southeast corner of MassMutual’s 100-acre Springfield campus.

In an effort to enhance and modernize its services, Baystate Health intends to bring together services from four of its existing Springfield health centers under one roof. These four centers, including the Mason Square Neighborhood Health Center, Baystate High Street Health Center, Baystate High Street Pediatrics, and Wesson Women’s Clinic, currently handle 125,000 patient visits annually. With the new center, officials are anticipating a total of 145,000 patient visits by 2028.

The funding for this groundbreaking project is being provided by MassMutual while the MassMutual Foundation is contributing $5 million in support of the endeavor. The construction of the health center is scheduled to commence in 2025 and is projected to be completed in 2027.

In a statement on Tuesday, MassMutual CEO Roger Crandall highlighted the longstanding commitment between MassMutual and Baystate to each other’s success. He emphasized that both organizations are dedicated to improving the lives of individuals in Springfield and beyond.
