Scotland faced a heavy defeat against Sri Lanka in the Women’s T20 World Cup qualifier in Abu Dhabi. Sri Lanka won by 10 wickets after bowling out Scotland for just 94 runs in 18.1 overs. Kavisha Dilhari was the standout performer for Sri Lanka, taking 4-13, while Inoshi Priyadharshani claimed 3-11.
In response, Sri Lanka easily chased down the target in just 10.1 overs, thanks to captain Chamari Athapaththu’s unbeaten 59 off 35 balls. Scotland’s next matches are against the United States and Thailand. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals, with the eventual finalists securing a spot at the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh later this year.
The tournament features teams from Ireland, Zimbabwe, the Netherlands, United Arab Emirates, and Vanuatu in Group B. The final will take place on May 7th, following the semi-finals on May 5th. Scotland will now look to bounce back in their upcoming matches and secure a spot in the knockout stages of the tournament.
