On Friday, May 5th, several baseball games took place in various conferences. In the Baseball Central Lakes Conference John Deyak Memorial Tournament held at Dick Puttsfield, Elk River defeated St. Cloud Crash with a score of 6-0. The game was a tight one until the top of the seventh inning when Elk River took advantage of an error and a pitching change to tack on five runs and win the game. In the bottom of the third inning, Crash had the bases loaded with one out due to two walks and an error. However, the threat ended quickly with a pop fly to the right and a regular fly ball to the center. Crash only managed two hits in the game, with one putting him on first and his sixth putting him on third. Elian Mezquita was caught trying to steal in the second and had his chance nullified with a strikeout. Several other games were also played during the conference.
In the Granite Ridge Conference, Becker defeated Zimmerman with a score of 8-2, Foley defeated Hibbing with a score of 19-2, and Piers defeated Mora with a score of 12-1. In the Central Minnesota Conference, Dussel Kokato defeated Kimball with a score of 7-6.
On Saturday, May 6th, the Baseball Central Lakes Conference John Dayak Memorial Tournament continued with Minneapolis Southwest defeating St. Cloud Crash with a score of 4-0. The game was rescheduled to 12:30 PM due to weather conditions, and a scheduled contest with Duluth East was cancelled. Crush was shut out in both games of the tournament. Sartell defeated Champlin Park with a score of 6-3, with Sartell’s Tyler Hemsch stealing 13 in six innings and only allowing two earned runs. In another game, Mahtomedy defeated ROCORI with a commanding early lead. ROCORI’s Blake Tylutki managed to score the team’s only RBI in the game.
In the Granite Ridge Conference, Eden Valley – Watkins defeated Maple Lake twice with scores of 12-2 and 12-5. Rice defeated Sauk Rapids-Rice with a score of 14-4, and in the Central Minnesota Conference, Spectrum defeated Kimball with a score of 12-0.
Overall, several conference games took place over the two-day period, with a variety of teams and scores. These games showcased the talent and hard work of the players and coaches involved.
