The Statesboro Lady Blue Devil basketball team is undergoing significant changes this year compared to the previous season where they made it to the second round of the state playoffs. With the loss of four starters, including two college scholarship recipients, the team is focused on building chemistry and preparing younger players to step into starting roles. Coach Marty Holder has high expectations for sophomore guard Maggie O’Neill, who has emerged as a leader during the summer.

Holder praised O’Neill for her hard work and commitment to improving her skills and basketball knowledge. He noted that she has become more vocal on the defensive end and has shown readiness to step up and fill the void left by graduating players. O’Neill expressed excitement about her increased role on the team and the opportunity to contribute as a leader and dependable player.

As the team works towards building experience and strengthening team chemistry during the summer, O’Neill acknowledges the challenges of having a young team. She is confident that with hard work and resilience, they will have a successful season despite the significant losses from the previous year. O’Neill’s growth from a role player to a trusted team leader reflects the dedication and determination of the Lady Blue Devil basketball team.
