Welcome to Week 2 stats! Week 2 of the season is always a big week in the NFL, especially for teams that are 0-1. If there’s one thing I don’t want to do, it’s start the season with an 0-2 record.
Since the playoffs were expanded to 14 teams in 2020, only 4.3% (1 out of 23 teams) of teams bounced back from an 0-2 start to advance to the postseason. This isn’t great news for the Bengals, Patriots, and Chargers, who are now 0-2 after Sunday’s loss. Of course, the Bengals happened to be the only team to bounce back from his 0-2 start and make the playoffs, so he’ll need to work his magic again.
Speaking of Magic, the Giants and Commanders seemed to be onto something in Week 2. The Giants overcame a 28-7 deficit to defeat the Cardinals 31-28, marking the biggest upset in franchise history. The coach defeated the Broncos, who were trailing 21-3, 35-33. With the Giants’ victory, they were able to escape the club’s 0-2 record.
However, some other teams were not so lucky. In addition to the Patriots, Chargers and Bengals, the Panthers, Texans, Cardinals, Broncos and Bears also lost on Sunday to get off to an 0-2 start, and the Vikings also lost on Thursday and are now 0-2. It may seem premature to write off an 0-2 team, but history says otherwise.
Well, enough about 0-2. We will be distributing the report cards, so let’s get started on them.
