Steelers Cut Ties with Mitchell Trubisky – NBC Sports

Feb 12, 2024

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Monday that they have released quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. This move will give Trubisky an opportunity to explore free agency ahead of the upcoming season. Trubisky, who is 29 years old, joined the Steelers before the 2022 season with the intention of being their bridge quarterback. However, he only lasted four games before being supplanted by Kenny Pickett. Throughout his first season in Pittsburgh, Trubisky only started one other game. He started three games this season due to Pickett’s injury, but was eventually replaced by Mason Rudolph. In his two seasons with the Steelers, Trubisky posted a record of 2-5, with eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

With Trubisky’s departure, Pickett is now the only quarterback on the roster. The Steelers do, however, have an interest in re-signing Rudolph. Prior to joining the Steelers, Trubisky achieved a 29-21 record with the Chicago Bears after being drafted as the second overall pick in 2017. He threw 64 touchdowns and 37 interceptions during his time with the Bears. In the 2021 season, Trubisky served as a backup to Josh Allen in Buffalo before joining the Steelers.
