STEM event jointly hosted by Southern State’s Computer Science Program and COSI

The Computer Science Department at Southern State, led by Associate Professor Dr. Joshua Montgomery, organized a STEM MiniDome Celebration Day at the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) in Columbus on May 1. Students from Reynoldsburg and Zane Trace took part in the event, which featured various activities. The day began with Dr. Montgomery’s opening remarks, followed by Eric Jacobs from the TSJ Foundation. Other special guests included Jason Messick from COSI and Dr. Ayanna Howard from The Ohio State University. Awards were given in categories such as exceptional paint job, exceptional operations, exceptional electronics, crazy cabling, and best of show.

Dr. Montgomery expressed his appreciation for the students’ participation, stating that everyone did an impressive job. He also thanked COSI for hosting the event and providing space and hospitality. The Computer Science Program at Southern State, under Dr. Montgomery’s leadership, offers an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Computer Technology. Students can choose two focus areas from pathways like Networking, Programming, Cybersecurity, and Robotics. This program equips students with in-demand skills in a flexible, affordable, and enjoyable learning environment.
