Steve McMichael unable to attend Hall of Fame induction in Canton due to ongoing battle with ALS

Steve McMichael, a former NFL defensive tackle, will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August. However, due to his battle with ALS, he will not be able to travel to Canton, Ohio for the ceremony. His family released a statement expressing their gratitude for the ongoing support from fans as McMichael continues to fight the disease.

The Hall of Fame is making arrangements to present McMichael’s honor at his home, where he will be surrounded by loved ones. In his absence, family friend Jarrett Payton will appear in Canton as his presenter. This will be Payton’s second time serving as a presenter at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony, having previously presented his father, Walter Payton, in 1993.

McMichael had a successful career in the NFL, playing for 15 seasons, with 13 of those seasons being with the Bears. He initially signed with the Patriots in 1980 but was cut after his rookie year. He then signed as a free agent with the Bears in 1981, where he thrived and became a prominent member of the legendary 1985 Bears’ defense. McMichael finished his career with the Packers in 1994.

Despite not being able to attend the induction ceremony in person, McMichael’s legacy and contributions to the sport will be honored and celebrated by his family, friends, and fans.
