The debate over hybrid work is ongoing, with some arguing that it offers the best of both worlds while others are concerned about its impact on productivity and collaboration. A study published in Nature, however, suggests that hybrid work may be the ideal setup for workers.
The study, which tracked over 1,600 employees of a Chinese travel agency, found that those who worked three days in the office and two days at home showed improved job satisfaction. Additionally, the rate at which these employees quit their jobs decreased by a third, particularly among non-managerial employees, females, and those with long commutes.
Hybrid work did not have a significant impact on workers’ performance or productivity, according to the study. Managers also became more supportive of the setup after participating in the study. The authors concluded that hybrid work can lead to increased profits for companies by reducing turnover rates.
Furthermore, hybrid work offers societal benefits by reducing commuting time and providing employees with valuable amenities. Businesses like cafés, bars, gyms, and beauty salons have already seen increased earnings due to the work-from-home trend. Overall, the study suggests that hybrid work has the potential to benefit both workers and businesses in various ways.
