The national railway strike by Trenitalia, Trenitalia Tper, and Trenord staff caused significant delays, cancellations, and inconveniences for passengers on Sunday. The strike, which ended at 2am on Monday, was supported by the PDM/PDB National Assembly, leading to disruptions in train services across the country. Since it was a public holiday, there were no guarantee bands in place, exacerbating the impact of the strike on travelers, especially for those on high-speed trains. However, Italo trains continued to run as scheduled, providing a reliable option for some passengers.

Trenord reported that only 20% of their trains were running regularly, with many cancellations and delays exceeding 80 minutes in Lombardy. The strike also affected trains in Rome, with dozens of services to and from Termini station canceled or delayed by more than 30 minutes. To mitigate the impact of the strike, Trenitalia sent over 75 thousand messages and emails to passengers ahead of time, and the call center received a higher volume of calls than usual, providing assistance and information to affected travelers.

In Campania, the regional railway staff also went on strike to demand better working conditions, further disrupting train services in the region. Despite the challenges faced by passengers during the strike, efforts were made to provide assistance and information at main stations to help minimize the inconvenience caused by the industrial action.
