Sunderland’s High Asking Price for Star Player Deterring Premier League Clubs

Sunderland’s asking price for one of their top players is reportedly scaring off a Premier League side this summer, according to journalist Alan Nixon. The team recently welcomed a new manager, Regis Le Bris from France, and there is uncertainty about which players will form the squad for the upcoming season. Despite this, several players are garnering interest from other clubs, including goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, midfielder Jobe Bellingham, and winger Jack Clarke.

Southampton, who have secured promotion back to the Premier League, are said to be keen on signing Clarke and believe he has the potential to excel at the top level. However, Sunderland’s valuation of £18 million for the player has deterred Southampton from making a move. The club feels that this price is too high and has caused them to reconsider their interest in Clarke.

Clarke, 23, was a standout performer for Sunderland last season, making 40 appearances in the Championship and scoring 15 goals. His impressive performances caught the attention of Southampton, but the high asking price has put a potential deal in jeopardy. Despite this, Clarke still has two years remaining on his contract with Sunderland, so the club holds the leverage in negotiations.
