High School baseball and softball teams are fighting for their place in the North Coast section playoffs. Sunmarine High School baseball team won against Petaluma in the first round of the Division II playoffs with a score of 5-0. Shortstop Anthony Sheppler contributed with two solo home runs, while pitcher Sean McGrath threw a shutout, allowing his team to advance to the next round against Casa Grande. Marin Catholic’s baseball team also had a successful first round and won against Washington with a score of 9-1, securing a place in the quarterfinals against Maria Carrillo.
The playoffs have also seen some intense pitching duels. Kaiden Dossa from Tam High School pitched a great game with 3 hits and 9 strikeouts in 6 innings, but Josh Volmerding from Maria Carrillo outdid him with 13 strikeouts in 8 innings, allowing only 3 hits. Maria Carrillo won the game with a score of 1-0.
On the softball side, Maisie Crawford of Redwood High School was the star of the game with two home runs and a total of three hits in an 11-2 victory against Ukiah. The team will face Northgate in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Novato High School was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs with a 9-0 loss to Albany.
Overall, the North Coast section playoffs have been exciting, with strong performances from the region’s high school athletes.
