Lindi Quackenbush has been named as the interim vice president for research at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. Prior to this role, she served as the chair for the department of environmental resources engineering. Quackenbush is taking over a research program that has an annual expenditure of approximately $20 million.

In her new position, Quackenbush will be responsible for leading, promoting, and driving research programs at ESF. Over the past two years, the research programs have expanded to include faculty clusters in areas such as the bioeconomy, indigenous environmental science, terrestrial ecosystem restoration, water science, and urban sustainability. There are plans for additional faculty clusters in data science and nanomaterials science.

Quackenbush, a professor in the ERE department, has been teaching at ESF for over 25 years and has been the department chair since 2018. Her research interests include image processing and remote sensing applications in various areas such as forestry, urban management, and water quality monitoring. She earned her Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in remote sensing and image processing from ESF.

Dr. John Stella, the previous vice president for research, is transitioning out of the role and returning to a faculty position within the department of sustainable resources management. Quackenbush will be taking on the interim role as Stella transitions.
