A Morning Consult survey published on the Axios news site revealed that 60% of eligible voters believe that incumbent President Joe Biden should be replaced as the Democratic Party’s primary candidate following his appearance in a confrontation with Donald Trump. The televised confrontation took place between Biden and Trump, with Biden’s tired and hoarse appearance being widely criticized. Many in the Democratic Party are now expressing concerns about Biden’s ability to continue in the election campaign.

The survey, which had 2,068 respondents, reflected reactions from Democratic Party officials regarding the possibility of replacing Biden as the party’s presidential candidate. Among Democratic voters, 21% believe Biden should definitely not be replaced, while 20% say probably not. When asked to choose between Biden and Trump, 45% chose Biden and 44% chose Trump.

These survey results were similar to those following Trump’s criminal conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records. A majority of respondents, including 19% of Democrats, felt that Trump outperformed Biden in the confrontation. However, Biden’s campaign spokesman emphasized that Biden is not retiring, and the poll still showed Biden leading Trump by one point.

Overall, the survey results highlight the growing concerns within the Democratic Party about Biden’s candidacy and the impact of his confrontation with Trump on the election race. Voters are divided on whether Biden should be replaced and how his performance compares to that of Trump.
