In a thrilling moment just below the press box at the Kensington Oval, Suryakumar Yadav’s incredible catch to dismiss David Miller left everyone in awe. Although initially unclear to those closest to the action, the replay and subsequent eruption of euphoria hinted that the World Cup victory might be within India’s reach.

When Suryakumar was asked about the catch, he humbly admitted, “I really don’t know what was going through my mind. All I could see was the World Cup flying away and I just latched on to it.” This catch drew comparisons to Kapil Dev’s legendary catch to dismiss Viv Richards in the 1983 World Cup.

Roger Binny, the highest wicket-taker of the 1983 World Cup and current BCCI president, praised Suryakumar’s catch as being on par with Kapil’s. Both catches had a significant impact on the outcome of the matches and showcased incredible athleticism. Captain Rohit Sharma, who witnessed the catch from long-off, described Suryakumar as calm under pressure and commended his exceptional catching skills.

Rohit Sharma, however, preferred not to make comparisons between the catches. He recounted his own emotions during the catch and how he remained calm until the scoreboard confirmed the dismissal. Despite the excitement of the moment, Rohit was already thinking about the remaining five balls that needed to be bowled to secure victory for Team India.
