Sybrand Engelbrecht, the South Africa-born batter, has officially announced his retirement from international cricket. He represented Netherlands in 12 ODIs and 12 T20Is after making his debut in 2023. His last international match was against Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup 2024, where his phenomenal boundary save went viral on social media.

Known for his exceptional fielding skills, Engelbrecht first gained attention in 2008 during the Under-19 World Cup when he took a spectacular catch for South Africa against Papua New Guinea. Despite retiring from all cricket in 2016 to focus on his professional career in finance and project management, he continued playing recreational cricket in the Netherlands starting in 2021. By 2023, he had made it to the Netherlands national squad and was selected to play in the ODI World Cup in India.

Having played half of his international matches in World Cups, Engelbrecht finishes his career with impressive stats. In ODIs, he scored 385 runs at an average of 35.00 with two half-centuries, while in T20Is, he amassed 280 runs at an average of 31.11 and a strike rate of 132.70. At 35 years old, he leaves the game as one of Netherlands’ top run-scorers in the T20 World Cup 2024.
