By

Jun 15, 2024

President Joe Biden commemorated Juneteenth and honored slain civil rights activist Medgar Evers by hosting a concert at the White House on June 10. This event served as a way to remember the significance of these important moments in history.

Legacy Academy of Excellence and NAMI Richland County are coming together to present the second annual Black Mental Health & Wellness Symposium. This event aims to celebrate the importance of mental health and wellness in the African American community. The symposium will address the challenges faced in the Black community regarding mental health and the support available to those affected. Additionally, it will focus on supporting loved ones with mental illness and breaking the cycle of the school-to-prison pipeline.

In partnership with Mansfield UMADAOP, North End Community Improvement Collaborative (NECIC), Mansfield/Richland County Public Library, and Richland County Children Services (RCCS), this free event will feature dinner, fun activities, and celebrations for families. The event will take place at Legacy Academy of Excellence located at 215 N. Trimble Road, Mansfield, from 2:30-7 p.m.

Doors will open at 2:30 p.m. for the welcome reception, followed by the symposium at 3 p.m. Guests can enjoy dinner and participate in various activities throughout the event. For those interested in attending, free tickets can be obtained at eventbrite.com. For more information, please contact Carla James, principal of Legacy Academy of Excellence, at 419-573-9895.
