The Group A match of the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup between India and Canada was called off without a ball being bowled due to a wet outfield at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground. This was the third consecutive match in the tournament at Lauderhill to be abandoned, following similar fates for the Sri Lanka-Nepal and Ireland-USA clashes. Former India cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Sanjay Manjrekar expressed disappointment over the ground not being fully covered during the broadcast, calling for ICC regulations to require venues to be fully covered in case of inclement weather.

Upon the teams’ arrival at the venue, the outfield was still wet with soggy spots around the 30-yard circle. Covers remained on the square under gloomy skies, as early morning rain and scattered thunderstorms were predicted for the entire day, causing a delay in the scheduled coin toss. Umpires Richard Kettleborough and Sharfuddoula inspected the pitch at 8 pm IST, with another inspection scheduled for 9 pm IST. Super soppers and massive hairdryers were deployed to dry the damp areas, but at 9:03 pm IST, the umpires decided to abandon the match.

With this result, India concluded their Group A matches unbeaten with seven points from four games, preparing to face Afghanistan in their first Super Eight game at the Kensington Oval. The match abandonment also led to Canada replacing Pakistan in the third spot in the Group A points table. Pakistan, already out of the competition, will need to win their last match against Ireland to finish third in the group.
