Tax Agency workers rally for better wages during tax season

The workers of the State Tax Administration Agency (AEAT) have been called to protest in Madrid on May 8 in front of the general management of the organization. The purpose of this protest is to urge leadership to negotiate improvements in labor and salary conditions for the staff. These mobilizations are being organized by the unions CSIF, SIAT, UGT, CC OO, and CIG following a collective conflict presentation and meeting with the AEAT management. The goal of the collective conflict is to initiate negotiations for a new collective agreement, as the previous one has been denounced for a year and a half. Additionally, the unions aim to reactivate the professional career agreement which has been pending development since 2007.

The CSIF union has warned that if necessary, the mobilizations will be extended to all of Spain, given the national reach of AEAT with over 27,000 personnel. They criticize the management for freezing collective bargaining while discretionarily increasing salaries for higher earners. The elite group of inspectors, specifically those in group A1, are receiving salary supplements exceeding 60,000 euros while the majority of the workforce remains under a remuneration blockage. Concerns have been raised about the prioritization of this elite group and calls have been made for a review of productivity.

The AEAT has expressed its willingness to meet periodically with union representatives to discuss legal and technical aspects for updating the Administrative and Professional Career model. They have also proposed convening the General Board of the Tax Agency to address the Performance Evaluation model, which is linked to the horizontal career development and payment of supplements. The staff of the AEAT is also pushing for the development of teleworking and negotiation of morning telephone service, issues which the organization has been reluctant to address.
