Wi-LAN Inc. has filed a lawsuit against three TCL Technology Group Corp. units, claiming they have violated its patents for 4G wireless technology. The lawsuit alleges that TCT Mobile (US) Inc., Huizhou TCL Mobile Communication Co., and TCL Mobile Communication (HK) Co. have been selling smartphones, tablets, and mobile hotspots that infringe on Wi-LAN’s patents.

According to the complaint filed in the US District Court for the Central District of California, these TCL units manufacture and sell products that can send and receive information over an LTE network. Wi-LAN and its subsidiaries Wi-LAN USA Inc. and Wi-LAN Labs Inc. claim that these products are in violation of US Patent No. 8,259,688.

The patent in question, ‘688, covers methods for “pre-allocated random access in wireless communication systems.” Wi-LAN is seeking damages and an injunction to stop the TCL units from continuing to sell products that allegedly infringe on their patents. The outcome of the lawsuit will determine whether TCL Technology Group Corp. will be held accountable for the alleged patent infringement.
