Technology company Rogers in Evergem facing potential job losses for over one hundred employees

Around 110 out of 150 jobs are at risk at the branch of American materials technology company Rogers in Evergem near Ghent, affecting 69 workers and 41 employees. The trade union ACV-Metea has confirmed this information. Rogers has announced plans to enhance operational efficiency and margins, with activities in Evergem being phased out by the middle of next year and relocated to other Rogers sites in China and the United States.

This marks the third reorganization at the Evergem branch since 2020, and the company has initiated the procedure under the Renault Act. Despite the presence of 40 remaining white-collar jobs, trade unionist Thomas Beeckmans from ACV-Metea expressed concern over the impact on employees. Beeckmans highlighted that the site has seen significant investments in recent years and noted that Rogers is not in financial distress, suggesting that the decision is driven by profit maximization.

Although management asserts that there is a future for the Evergem branch, employees fear a scenario in which only support services remain. The intention to eliminate all blue-collar jobs on the site has raised concerns about the branch’s long-term viability. Beeckmans emphasized the significance of the Evergem site and the uncertainty surrounding its future trajectory.
