When I was younger, I used to enjoy reading the comic strips of Dick Tracy in the newspaper. The stories would span a couple of weeks, leading up to Dick Tracy and his team solving the case and catching the bad guy. My dad and I would read each episode together, discussing what was happening and predicting what might happen next. One thing that always fascinated me was the “two-way communicator” watches that Dick Tracy and his crew had, which seemed like something out of science fiction at the time.
During a recent visit to my sister’s house, I mentioned that I needed a watch. She showed me her smartwatch, which could track various health metrics like steps taken, blood pressure, blood glucose levels, and even provide horoscope readings. Luckily, my sister had an extra watch that she offered to give me as an early birthday present, which I happily accepted.
I’ve been having fun exploring the features of the smartwatch over the past few days. It tells me that my blood pressure is slightly high, but my blood glucose levels are in a good range. I can even make phone calls from the watch, similar to Dick Tracy’s two-way communicator, although I don’t think I would ever use the video call feature. Despite all its advanced functions, the watch also tells the time, which is a basic but essential feature.
Whether it’s the right time or not, I hope to enjoy the sunny side of life with my new watch by my side.
