Teen charged in series of armed burglaries targeting multiple St. Louis-area businesses

A teenager in St. Louis is facing felony charges related to a string of burglaries that occurred primarily in April and targeted businesses in both St. Louis city and county. Mekel Walker, 18, has been charged with offenses including stealing, first-degree burglary, and first-degree property damage, most of which have been classified as felonies by the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office.

According to court documents obtained by FOX 2, Walker is accused of being involved in a series of burglaries that took place on April 27, April 28, and June 11 in both St. Louis City and St. Louis County. During these incidents, he was allegedly armed with firearms and acting with others.

The group reportedly stole $750 in cash or merchandise from at least five businesses between April 27 and 28, including four businesses on Delmar Boulevard. They attempted to pry open doors with a crowbar at one establishment and shattered windows at others to gain entry. Surveillance cameras captured the crimes. On June 11, Walker and others broke windows at two more St. Louis City businesses and stole over $750 from each.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Walker, and a judge has ordered that there be no bond upon his arrest. It is unclear from court documents whether he is currently in custody. As of now, no charges have been filed against Walker in St. Louis County or against anyone else suspected in the burglary spree.
