Tequesta woman accused of stabbing her husband and daughter has been relocated to a mental health facility

Julie Mitchell, a former candidate for the Tequesta village council, has been charged with stabbing her husband and daughter. A Palm Beach County judge has signed an order to transfer her from the county jail to a mental health treatment facility. She will be moved to Memorial Regional Hospital and then to a treatment facility in Hollywood. If she is successfully treated, Mitchell will return to court and her case will continue, with a status check hearing set for August.

Authorities were alerted to the incident when the Tequesta Police Department received a call about a woman stabbing her family. When officers arrived, they found Mitchell inside the residence, still wielding a kitchen knife. Her daughter had already made it outside and was awaiting the arrival of law enforcement.

Mitchell was taken to JFK North Hospital along with her family for treatment. Her husband had suffered a slash to his upper left arm. When questioned about the domestic disturbance, Mitchell responded with religious references, claiming that Satan lived in her home and that her family members were the devil.

The police report details how officers found Mitchell inside the residence still holding the knife, and they had to wrestle it away from her. Mitchell has been charged with two counts each of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and resisting an officer with violence. She will undergo mental health treatment before her case proceeds through the legal system.
