The ‘Bridgerton’ Series Boosts U.K. Economy by Over £250 Million

Netflix’s hit show “Bridgerton” has had a significant impact beyond just viewership numbers. According to Netflix, the Shonda Rhimes-produced universe, which includes Seasons 1-3 and the spinoff “Queen Charlotte,” has added over a quarter of a billion pounds to the U.K. economy since its launch in December 2020. This boost has benefitted nearly 5,000 local businesses in the process.

To celebrate this milestone, Shonda Rhimes will be opening markets for trading at the London Stock Exchange. The announcement comes after the second part of Season 3, which focuses on the romance between Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton, was released on the streaming platform.

Rhimes acknowledged the significant impact of the “Bridgerton” universe on both culture and the economy in a statement. The show has led to notable increases in baby names inspired by its characters, with Daphne, Eloise, and Colin seeing significant upticks in popularity since the premiere.
